L.A. By Night Chapter 1: Mortal Stakes is up now. The first of eight chapters in season one, a V5 game run by Jason Carl.
I’ve borrowed the introduction narrating what happened during the day while the vampires were dead to the world, which quickly emphasises how isolated they are.
B. Dave Walters as Victor Temple makes a classically bossy Ventrue really likable, by showing his motivations and his kinder side away from the public persona. I also really like the way he uses the Fame advantage, which so often seems to be more trouble than it’s worth, to make Victor too visible for enemies to go straight at.
Erika Ishii as Annabelle being brand new to the world of the Kindred gives the audience a way in, and she really dives in to the horror of the change and the dangers a neonate can find and pose.
Alex Ward as Jasper is the most live-action-y of the group, a monster actor playing a Nosferatu, by turns charming and deeply creepy.
Cynthia Marie as Nelli G. is witty, cutting, not as flighty as she seems, and at times really scary. Between her and two guest PCs, the Toreador actually end up as the scariest clan in the chronicle.
