Dracula (2020)

Best approached in the spirit of the Hammer sequels, perhaps.

I knew that Dracula from the creators of Sherlock was going to be wacky in some way, but...

I wouldn’t have guessed it would be played straight-up creepy with a big side of body horror, except the hero and villain...

My favourite bit, I think, is how much Dracula encourages his victims to struggle.

My least favourite bit is, unfortunately, Dracula.

Also, yes, it’s the same castle from Nosferatu. (And the studio was Bray.)

Edit:

The Demeter pretty much gets an episode to itself. (Much to the likely annoyance of the licence holders of the screenplay about that idea, which is still in development Hell thirteen years after being written. And see also the LARP about it...)

And featuring a Lord and Lady Ruthven...

Post It contortionist monster moment.

“Dying gives you size.” It was death in Silence In The Library.

Dorabella, a name I last heard in Victory Of The Daleks.

Who is inside Number 9?

A possible answer to the question of whether fingers can be used to make crosses!

“There are such things.”

Don’t tell women to smile.

Or shoot them in the face. Or try to take over the world.

Or use the vampire emoji.

Beyond the story, the twists on vampire lore work alright. The undead plague beyond Dracula himself is quite interesting. He’s normally unique, here he’s exemplary instead.
