Loki 1.01: Glorious Purpose

Loki
1.01: Glorious Purpose
“After stealing the Tesseract in “Avengers: Endgame,” Loki lands before the Time Variance Authority.”

The title comes from Loki’s introductory speech in Avengers, reminding us that were dealing with the Loki of that era, not the one who had three films worth of major character development since. even though tonally we’re closest to Thor: Ragnarok...

And the episode description is literalised by showing Loki’s escape in the pre-credits, before a Theremin-y theme over the Marvel Studios ident which ends with it turning green and gold.

A door in time! (Private joke.)

“You’re that criminal with the blue box!” (Less private joke.)

The TVA is very 50s-70s Paranoia / Fallout bunkertech, complete with educational cartoon which is equal parts Mr. DNA, Kirby gods and Gerald McBoing-Boing. Bonus point for the use of “Kafkaesque” in the full episode description.

So... who was the guy who get disintegrated for not taking a ticket to show how that works?

“Do a lot of people not know they’re robots?”

The timeline is being prevented from branching to create a multiverse? Hmm.

The D.B. Cooper sequence seen in the trailers is a throwaway gag?

We see what the pruning weapons do, but not the reset devices. I suspect it isn’t nice for the people nearby.

“For the record this really does feel like a killing me kind of room.”

And then they drop some of that character development on him.

Oh, and Agent Mobius may or may not be chasing the Devil. Sort of.

  1. I for one do not buy Loki's quick breakdown and sudden moral turn.
