#RPGaDay 2017 25: Thank your GM

#RPGaDay 2017

25: What is the best way to thank your GM?

I accept thanks, praise, constructive criticism, cola and chocolate. Money would call my amateur status into question.

  1. Nope, I'd accept money! ;)

Maybe I've just been on this side of the atlantic too long!

    1. But who will represent us in the Call of Cthulhu category at the Olympics?

    2. Ah, but I can still represent as a player! ;)

TBH, I got over the getting paid for doing something I love guilt when I charged to be a fencing coach. I see getting paid to GM in the same light.

I have a whole post brewing on this subject, as it's kinda interesting to see it going on. Maybe I'l get round to writing it soon!

    3. I'm happy to take the money for game writing, but I'd pause at GMing. I'm already unloading a bunch of my interests on the players, and if they're paying me I can see it like the Nationals charity reroll where the person paying says what happens...

    4. Like I said, there's more than one post in this topic, but yes, there would be a definite shift, but, if you pay for a lawyer, you don't get to dictate the rules he follows, same at the table. There is a contract between player and GM, with or without money involved. Money changes the stakes, but you have to lay out the contract before you go into it.

I can see that as a GM, it would make me bring my A game, and yes there are different pressures, and again, yes, it would suit some games and play types more than others, but I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.
