Votes for women is just the beginning

Today saw the centenary Suffragette March in cities and towns across the country, a reminder of how far we’ve come - and how far we need to go.

The Suffragette movement was forceful. Lives were lost. It saw tactics like hunger striking by prisoners and force feeding in response. Suffragettes learned martial arts. It looks much more peaceful than it was because of the slow cameras often needing posed photos, and the fashion of the time seeming quaint - it gave way to the Flapper look in a few years reflecting new freedoms.
