D&D Basic Rules now available

The Free To Play version goes live. Four classes, four races, twenty levels. No monsters as of this writing, which seems to be the main part missing from an intro game.

I really appreciate this part about gender and orientation.

The credits include the following: Additional consultation provided by Jeff Grubb, Kenneth Hite, Kevin Kulp, Robin Laws, S. John Ross, the RPGPundit, Vincent Venturella, and Zak S. Well, I know why The RPG Pundit got named in Doctor Who: Adventures In Time And Space, and it was kind of a funny story. I wonder if this is the case here...

  1. I like the ideas both the idea of a free intro game and the bits about gender/ sex/ orientation. It seems nice :)

    1. Yeah.

Unfortunately, apparently Zak S. is also horrible.

  2. That's less good :(

Still good to see a big-mainstream RPG saying something like that rather than some indie thing in someone's blog that 2 and half people will read. I mean I always say to players in my games feel free to play character's of whatever gender (male, female, other) just play it with respect and not as a cheap stereotype. After all gaming is, in part, about self expression. However I think a D&D book saying it has more weight than my ramblings.

    1. Absolutely, it's heartening to see it there.

  3. It is very heartening and it's a good way also of combating increasingly restrictive gender stereotypes that for some reason seem to be emerging. Sorry I'm just annoyed at how the world seems to be going backwards. I won't rant on your blog anymore.

So yeah, well done Wizards of the coast on multiple counts :).
