Avengers: Infinity War

Greetings from last week!

Thanos works great, the Black Order are pretty fun bad guys, the fights are cool, it was somewhat bitty, but really we’re here to talk about the end.

Not exactly the feel-good hit of the summer, was it?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say a lot of the deaths are going to get undone in Avengers: Whatever Number Four Is Called. Particularly some are all of the disintegrations.

Because Heimdall getting stabbed, Loki getting his neck snapped and Gamora getting thrown off a cliff seem pretty final... although as Thor notes Loki has weaseled out of death before...

But the death of half the universe through disintegration really can’t stick, especially when it includes Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and all but one of the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as Wanda, Bucky, Sam, Maria Hill and Nick Fury. That’s a lot of sequels to cancel.

So I think they overplayed their hand there. If they’d avoided the headliners it might have seemed somewhat more likely to stick.

The Time Stone seems like the obvious get-out - Thanos used it to steal victory by undoing the destruction of the Mind Stone already, and Doctor Strange clearly had a plan.

We’ll see.

Of course I’ll be there opening night next year.

We will deep fry your kebab.
