Discovered through history Twitter:
The Wenhaston Doom, a church panel painting on Judgment Day, where the
demons doing the judging have big surprised teddy bear eyes, floppy ears, and basically look like the monsters from
The Muppet Show. It predates teddy bears and Muppets by about 400 years but I’m pretty sure big eyes and floppy ears have been considered cute rather than scary for longer than that.
