Carrie (2026)

31 Days Of Horror Movies 2026

Prompt 15 is “Telekinesis” and I feel like it might be there because one of the big streaming releases for spooky season 2026 is...

15.
Carrie (2026)

“This episode contains scenes involving bullying and a school shooting drill. Viewer discretion is advised.”

Mike Flanagan moves to Prime and takes Stephen King’s number with him, modernising Carrie as a miniseries. One of the main texts for high school horror, this version plays up the added horrors of social media, school shooting drills and more, and updates the isolated religious weirdness of Whites as doomsday preppers.

It’s generally well done if the subject matter isn’t an immediate nope. Until...

Until we get to the end and it sets up more seasons.

Having been okay with and really liking some of Flanagan’s spin on The Haunting Of Hill House until he changed his mind and went for a happy ending, seeing him drop the ending is now a familiar letdown.

Not least because Carrie is all buildup to that ending. It’s a glorious and tragic crescendo. It’s the fireworks factory.

At least this was obviously the plan this time, established from the talking heads right after the cold open of the first episode, but it lost me.

It plays with the reference that Carrie is one friend away from a superhero origin by dropping in what really really looks like the X-Mansion...

Yes, change a frequently adapted source material, but don’t dump the bit people come to it for.

The medium: Prime

Gameability: Awful high school and kids with superpowers, yes, gameable. But expanding it past a one-shot would lose that ending.
