21: The Invitation (2022)
Trailer which drops all the twists
A young American woman discovers she’s related to a moneyed British family and invited to a family wedding. Only to discover she’s the bride. Which would be enough of an issue without it also...
Which I knew going in but it takes a while to get there so it gets a spoiler tag.
Would it work better not knowing? Maybe. It would certainly help the pacing as it takes a while to get there.
(Compare Abigail which gets to “Vampire!” twenty-five minutes in and that still felt like a while as it shouts it in the trailers.)
It’s a cute wonky take on old money vampires and Dracula name-dropping in particular, but a regular weird moneyed family might have worked fine too, though might then have ended up like a less fun Ready Or Not.
And seeing the edited and unedited versions makes an interesting comparison. We start with a previous victim killing herself, and the cut version has a visual joke and the uncut just straight-up shows her severed head. (It has an alternate ending too. Maybe later.)
The medium: Prime
Gameability: Stuck in a manor house with vampires and minions, that’s one of the classics. Or you could borrow the basis as I’ve seen done in Vampire one-shots where the PCs are charged with helping to arrange such a party...
