13d: Ghostbusters
(Wikipedia entry which you could just about run the game from)
Having done D6 Star Wars in 2022, its direct ancestor and a foundation of dice pool systems, WEG and Chaosium’s Ghostbusters first edition.
Very, very out of print, but there are retroclones as well as other systems for playing a Ghostbusters game.
GB PCs have twelve points to spend among four Traits (stats) rated one to five dice for humans, and a Talent (skill) for each which adds three dice. They also have a Personal Goal, and a standard number of 20 roll-boosting Brownie Points.
Four characters seems like a suitable number here, as it fits the classic team once Winston joins, the Answer The Call group and the Afterlife kids and the Extreme Ghostbusters animated young team as well, and also the four Traits.
Which is avoiding making things easy for myself because a GB PC takes about a minute and a half, two if I come up with a DIY Talent instead of one from the list, as the game encouraged with its adventures and hooks full of NPCs with extra Talents. I gave everybody one of these, as well as adding a rider on their Personal Goal.
(When I ran the game for probably longer than intended, I let the players pick up secondary Talents starting at one extra die. I was nice like that.)
The game also ran with the comment about franchise rights, so setting up a new Ghostbusters franchise with a starting team, an EPA form and injury and death waivers to fill in and all.
Let’s say Arkham.
Bob Wingate
The franchise holder
Finally giving up on getting tenure at UMass Miskatonic, Dr. Wingate decided to get into the sorta-kinda lucrative field of parapsychology investigation. He already has the books, after all.
Brains 4
Parapsychology
Muscle 2
Run
Moves 3
Fire Weapon
Cool 3
Haggle (DIY)
Personal Goal
Wealth (or at least balancing the checkbook within three years of opening)
I have no idea who to cast as it would probably be someone from SNL, so here is a Ghost Die. |
14d: Deb the muscle
15d: Jim the intern
16d: Wentworth the actual brains
