6: FOREST
Borrowing from Geek-Life Balance:
What does a forest mean?
As a species made for open plains, the forest is dangerous territory where our two feet are a problem and long-distance vision is no help.
We’ve built up a lot of mythology around forests and the creatures that live there. It’s a place of uncertainty and hidden threats. (TVTropes alert!)
Saying someone is “out of the woods” means that they’ve made it through an extended period of risk. It’s often bracketed with not yet.
I’m currently playing Beyond The Wall and rather than the Wall, the big scary thing bordering our home village is the Forest, so this particular series could also be called Into The Woods, referring to the Stephen Sondheim musical about a group of fairytale characters crossing over in that uncertain space.
But it’s also something we need to survive. While you’re clicking, go to The Rainforest Site. Thank you!
