16V: MOVE
How do vampires move?
Do their movements give away what they are?
I’ve started giving more thought to vampires’ body language as a tell for how far they are from humanity. Not just that they don’t need to breathe, but they might not blink either. The way they walk can be a hint of how close the Beast is to the surface, I use the term ‘stalk’ more often. In combat, they might feel pain when injured but it doesn’t slow them down like it should. In a recent session I had a vampire jump off a three-storey roof to get the drop on someone, and then straighten up and walk off.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt gives a lot of thought to movement. It has different animations for feeding by character type, so Brujah grab victims by the collar, Nosferatu pounce on them, and Toreador take them in their arms so that they join in and then they push them off when they’re done.
How do vampires move around the city?
“They can fly?”
“They can drive.”
“Oh.”
Buffy The Vampire Slayer 1.02: The Harvest
In Bloodhunt they can climb any wall at near running speed to get away from prying eyes, and fight on rooftops with less risk to the Masquerade. (The climbing seems like a breach in itself, but never mind.)
As does the leaping. But it’s great fun. |
Do your vampires meet and brood on rooftops, sneak through sewers and storm drains and otherwise travel in places most people never see? Requiem considers this in Damnation City in particular, where the example city setting has a map of the main sewers as well as public transportation.
2.04: Members Only
Alice gets a call from another dhampir looking for somewhere to hide out as he escapes another city. The safest way to travel away from vampires is by day, but that also counts on her side and means that only Jonah can come with her to meet him in case he’s in danger from a mortal threat.
