1.01: What If... Captain Carter Were The First Avenger?

That was great fun.

Not entirely sold on the cel-style CG animation, but I do like how mobile the virtual camera gets to be.

I loved how excited and happy Peggy was about her powers. The way she gets the costume and shield was a bit rushed and not tied to her character, but with half an hour to remake a movie some corners have to be cut. (See also Bucky having his jacket already and Howard not putting a jacket on for the final mission, which would have meant redesigns for one scene each.)

... What was up with Bucky making fish references?

I feel like the end would have been a good time for Disney+ to plug Agent Carter rather than Loki.

So that’s a “slightly different world” ending to introduce the premise lightly.

Spoilers for speculation based on the comics:

I expect a couple of “wildly different world” endings, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get one or two of What If...?’s other favourite endings “everything basically goes back to normal”, and maybe its other favourite “EVERYBODY DIES!” but probably just the one.

And the Watcher would often remind us he’s sworn to only observe and never interfere in the comics, but having him emphatically state “I do not, cannot, will not interfere” in his closing speech in the first episode makes me think he’s going to interfere sometime.
